ragani: (Fleur Delacour)
I am off to reprise my role as Fleur Delacour at the Potterverse block+ trick-or-treat event that my friends help put together on Wawona in West Portal in San Francisco. I am bringing [livejournal.com profile] gardengirl_34, who has graciously agreed to be the fat lady in the portrait and [livejournal.com profile] chaosloom, who just wants to see what all the fuse is about. I hope to see [livejournal.com profile] fresne there as Luna Lovegood, and [livejournal.com profile] katiiis who is bringing family etc. to check it out.

Au revoir!

Yes! We just felt a minor earthquake, which means a local fault is bleeding off some of the pressure. I hope no one got hurt.

With access to better source photos, I think I am happier with the latest version of the remake for [livejournal.com profile] gianni. I made my first attempt some time ago, as the original, Portrait of Francesco II della Rovere, by Barocci was so obviously [livejournal.com profile] gianni that is was begging to be remade with his face.

I had a delightfully low-impact weekend. With Ren Faire finally over, and Dickens workshops starting up this coming weekend, it will probably be the last mellow weekend I have until next year. Lots of sleeping in late, and lazing around.

I even found time to put together some new remakes.

Will & Ragani Will & Ragani
I found a great portrait of a couple for me to use for a remake featuring Will and myself. I will probably redo my face, but Will turned out well, thanks to the lovely selection of photos from Stephanie of The Naughty Minstrels.

I am putting together the playlist for the Monsters! game night that is happening on November 2nd. I have decided that I am going to have to be very flexible with the theme since there are only so many songs that are clearly about monsters.

Any suggestions?

Got the plans figured out.

We shall meet at 7 PM in San Francisco at the San Francisco Center food court. Yes, the food court is not small, and since we are not going to be able to be sure of where we can get a table, people are just going to have to look for us. I will try to get there early so as to get a large table that is centrally located. Some interest has been made in eating at Out The Door, however, many options abound.

The showing is at 8 PM, and I suspect that since this movie has been out long enough now we will not need to make too many plans to do more than get in line once we are done eating, but buying tickets before eating might be a good idea.

Anyone from LJ land going to join us?

Several people have told me a Friday night outing would be best for the group Golden Age viewing. Since I am hosting a game night on November 2nd and there was a party I wanted to attend this Friday, I was not sure that was going to work. However, due to unfortunate medical complications, the party has been cancelled (take care, and get well soon), which frees up this Friday after all.

I propose this Friday we gather for some costume porn. Now, the only questions left are where and what showing time.

Personally, the AMC Bay Street (showtimes: 4:45, 6:20, 7:25) works best for me, but I realize there are several San Francisco people involved so my second choice is the Kabuki (4:20, 7:00, 9:30) as sadly, the otherwise more convenient Metreon is not an option.

Edit: The SF crew has suggested this alternative SF viewing locale:

Century San Francisco Centre. Their standard evening showtimes are 7:20 - 8:00. The San Francisco Centre is right on the MUNI/BART line at Powell -- it's the new shiny mall with the lovely Slanted Door takeout place in the basement. More convenient, I think, than Japantown.

I have to agree that it is more convenient over the Kabuki.

So, who all is in for a Friday showing? If so, which location and time is your preference?

I attended Folsom Faire for the first time ever this last weekend. It was a lovely faire, and I can see why people are fond of it. I was there at the invitation of [livejournal.com profile] chaosloom, who had stage time and other gigs through out the weekend with The Naughty Minstrels, of course. What was particularly fun for me was that I was able to wear my English garb for the first time in many years, and I had no obligations. I watched several of The Naughty Minstrels shows, got to see many friends I have not seen in ages and actually hang out with some of them. On Sunday I took up the role of troupe photographer so that there are photos of Stephanie as well. Playing with her big camera was fun (although heavy!), and I easily used all the images available to me by the last show. I look forward to seeing what we got from those shoots.

This image behind the cut was taken by [livejournal.com profile] psyche7772, and is the only one I have seen from the weekend so far.

Now that I have my bodice on, I am finding that I have to take shallower breaths.

Man! It has been ages since I had to wear this bodice. This weekend will be interesting.

There is something to say about staying good friends with your exes. I will admit to it being rather amusing having an ex agree to help me pick out a new sweater as a gift for the new boy. However, it got much more surreal when new boy joined us so we could better fit his ever-shrinking body and it turned into a build-a-boyfriend workshop. Instead of a new sweater, we instead dressed him a new jacket, t-shirt, dress shirt and jeans. All of which fit him a fair sight better than the sweater I kidnapped from him that he was wearing before (it will be returned very soon for good behavior).

Yesterday afternoon saw me as the shurpa who held all the bags (including three laptops) to free up the boys to try things on, and the one standing in line to pay for the final choices. I feel like I have paid a bit against my shopping karma. Meanwhile, watching [livejournal.com profile] inside_edge give [livejournal.com profile] chaosloom advice on how to treat himself with new well-fitting clothes throughout his weight loss journey was priceless and warmed the cockles of my heart.

Despite [livejournal.com profile] inside_edge's playful suggestions, I really did not plan this to ambush [livejournal.com profile] chaosloom (for which he figured out on his own), and in fact it was just as surreal for me that it turned out the way it did.

Thanks again go to [livejournal.com profile] inside_edge for all his care and advice. And major props to [livejournal.com profile] chaosloom for being such a sport.

I have never before attended Folsom Faire, although I have heard many good things about it and have been told I should not miss it. So, when [livejournal.com profile] chaosloom invited me to join him and The Naughty Minstrels for their annual visit I agreed to go.

It will be fun wearing my English garb for the first time in ages! I tried the bodice on yesterday and it is a bit tight, but will work (the gap is just over an inch in the front). [livejournal.com profile] gardengirl_34 has agreed to help me make sure everything works and make adjustments as needed tomorrow morning.

So, who else is going to Folsom Faire?

Well, I finally talked to the friend who I want to treat to seeing Elizabeth: The Golden Age as a late birthday present and next week is fine for a movie outing. Life is just too busy this week for me, what with helping [livejournal.com profile] chaosloom move, chatting with [livejournal.com profile] inside_edge about designs, and getting ready for Folsom Faire (I have to dig out my English garb for this one!), not to mention a scattering of more mundane work stuff.

That, and none of you bums seemed inclined to join us anyway. But if you are interested, let me know. I was envisioning a group outing where we went out to eat afterwards and tore the movie to bits over good food and enjoyable company.

Porn!

You guys are no fun!

Yeah, I doubt there is much historical value to Elizabeth: The Golden Age, and I fully expect to role my eyes through out the movie at much of the cheese.

However, I think this review has summed up why I want to see it:

The popularity of royal costume drama has given rise to a subgenre: textile porn.

I want to get a group together to go see the latest Elizabeth movie, preferably this week, some weekday evening in San Francisco (although East Bay might work too).

I am willing to consider next week, but since the main reason I want to do this is to take my friend Elizabeth (who's namesake is actually Elizabeth I) for her birthday, it all depends on when she is available. I missed her party that was last Saturday and need to make it up to her before she moves out of state.

Who is interested? If so, what night works for you?

My mom sent me this. I wonder what she is trying to say to me...?

Friday night game night went very well. The playlist was appreciated and set the mood well. We had nearly as big a turn out as last time, which even included the host of another game night, who skipped out on one of his own groups scheduled events to join us!

I slept in my own bed that night and got to faire late Saturday morning. Miss L ended up being the only henna artist there for the first hour or so, which is ironic since she was pulled in to be our back-up artist this year. Business was good and kept me and the other artists busy most of the weekend.

Saturday night I was pleased to have, for the first time, remembered in advance to bring the proper attire to attend Black & Pearl. Ironically, it took so long for the other shows to end before it started, I got distracted, and ended up in a rather nice RV drinking Manhattans with [livejournal.com profile] chaosloom and several other Naughty Minstrels. It really was difficult to convince myself to leave for the ball when I was sitting comfortably inside on a wing back chair with the occasional bachelor(ette) party crashing by and plenty of interesting conversations to keep me entertained.

Sunday I made my first real pilgrimage to Casa de Diner to wait for the traffic to disperse. [livejournal.com profile] chaosloom and I tagged onto [livejournal.com profile] gypsy_ritsa and her boy and eventually got a table and slow but friendly service. We kept telling her we were in no hurry when she apologized for the slow service - really it was that or sitting in traffic with low blood sugar.

Over dinner I asked what everyone's highlights had been so far at this Ren Faire. I think it would be fun to hear from any of the others who have been working faire this year their answer to the same question. Since I don't want to spoil the answers (yeah, I want you to think on your own about this one), I ask that you reply without looking at other responses.

So, what are your highlights so far from 2007 Northern Ren Faire?
