I was reading about the 85 Broads planned shopping "buycott" (thanks, [livejournal.com profile] katiiis, for the info) and think it is an interesting idea. Most of these types of things, like the various gas boycott day, do not seem to make much of a difference from my perspective, because the businesses make-up for any loss the days before and after said boycott. I would be curious if it makes any difference with this one though.

What do you think? Should we give it a try?

No. I will not be doing this. Just like I didn't do anything on the day of the Gay Boycott which was much the same and for a more "real" purpose in my mind [I don't see Women's Rights as currently as major of a deal as Gay Rights and I think time is one of the only things that will help women's rights currently as equality is pretty well done, IMO]. Because I don't believe it will work.

What does work is an extended, massive thing. It means always buying from independant bookstores and never buying from Amazon or B&N if you believe in small businesses. It means finding out which stores are "gay-friendly" and only buying from them. It means finding out which corporations are great on equality and only buying from them.

A one-day anything doesn't mean squat, IMO.
