There are NO viable transportation options from Union Station in LA to Anaheim after 10 PM tonight.
I hate the idea of taking a cab, which will probably cost about $130.

Our original plan involved a friend picking us up, but she backed out after we had already booked the bus, and it was too late to change at that point.

Edit: We HAVE looked into:
- taking the train (10 minutes to catch a train is not enough, especially when you are not sure the bus will arrive on time)
- having a shuttle pick us up (cost $78 a person because it is not a standard route)
- taking the Metro (unless I am wrong, it stops running at 8 PM)
- renting a car (there are no rental places still open that late in that area)

How "after 10pm"?

The Pacific Surfliner has a train from Union Station to Anaheim for $10. at 10:10pm. Gets to Anaheim at 10:51pm.

10 minutes does not seem like enough time to make it to the train, especially when the bus could be late.

Well, if the bus is running early (because they padded their "on time schedule like the airlines do) this is an option. And you can use the ticket machines vs. the warm bodies to buy the tickets.

I just wish I was closer than a 2.5 hour ride each way to help you out.

Thanks. I too wish it was not such a hassle for someone to give us a ride. It would be nice to use that time to socialize too.

at worst, take red line at union station to blue line to long beach, or exit blue line at imperial to green line to norwalk and get cab from there. If I had a car I'd both join and pick up.

Is there something a little later than that? We arrive at 10, assuming the bus is on time, but I expect it will take more than 7 minutes to find the Red Line, having never been there.

exit bus, go down the stairs, turn right, go past amtrack windows and downstairs to red line. =) There will be signs and people to ask.

I second tsgeisel. When I last flew down to the big D, I rented a car. It was cheaper than taking the shuttle (there were 4 of us and the shuttle charged per person) and it gave us some flexibility for food, since we weren't limited to places that were local (and therefore pricey).

Our accommodation provided free parking and was close enough to walk to our destinations, so it ended up being pretty cost effective.

One other option... a short cab ride from downtown to LAX, where there are 24-hour car rentals. $20 cab plus $30 compact rental is still cheaper than the shuttle, and with no time pressures.

Yes, sorry a cab. That's how I get from LAX to the Santa Monica office when I fly down. You might want to check out how much for a cab from Union station to the nearest airport. Then catch the inevitable shuttle from the airport to Anaheim.

There are typically some car rental places available 24/7 at the airport, but I don't know if you're anywhere near there.

What about a Limo or Black Car Service? I know it sounds weird, but with 4 of you (IIRC) and it's considered a "transfer" to some of them as they are doing a pick-up/drop-off, it should be cheaper than a taxi. And I'd call a Limo Co in Anaheim so that they are coming back home rather than having to do a round trip. Maybe they have an airport drop off around that time and can hang out for you guys, making it better for them?
