I went to the Plough last night, which was fun. I danced the usual dances for everyone with a variety of people. I had a different partner for the three waltzes I got to dance; two of them were people who were still learning to waltz, and who basically asked me to back-lead. They both did well, under the circumstances; the Plough is not the best place to learn to waltz. Even so, it was a delight to dance one of the waltzes with [livejournal.com profile] veryloki who is talented at finding those spaces in the crowded dance floor that are big enough to actual do spins and other fun moves.

Afterwards, instead of going to Au Coqulet, a small group of us went to Tuk Tuk Thai. I am not decided if I prefer this overall, but it was a nice change, and I am rather a fan of the pumpkin curry they serve there. It is not really the kind of food I usually want that late at night, and I did miss my favorite drink from the Au Coq. It is just too late to have a Thai iced tea.

Years ago I went to several ballroom dance classes that were not simply before an event, but held weekly in a dance studio of sorts. It was nice to have the time to focus on the dance steps and really get a good understanding of how to dance without the complication of being at a social event. Since it has come up recently, I wanted to ask those in the dancing community what good ballroom dance classes are out there currently that are in the area (east bay and SF)? I am especially interested in finding which ones would be recommended for dancers who are fairly new to ballroom, but have some other dance background.

I haven't spent time in the SF and east bay studios. But, a couple studios I hear about are Metronome Dance Center in SF and Allegro Ballroom in Emeryville. Allegro also holds the monthly Allegro Invitational which is supposed to be good. I know people performing in both January and February. I have friends who compete and study at Metronome.

Good luck finding a class you enjoy.
