This Sluggy Freelance really hit home.
What ever that secret spice blend it, I am hooked, and it makes me buy the crap excuse they have for pastries while I am there feeding that addiction. Arrrrg!
I am cat sitting in Piedmont, right above Gaylords Cafe Espresso, which is an established coffee house, the likes of which is the antithesis of Starbucks. I suspect it will survive the invasion of a Starbucks, right across the street, and continue to be the counterculture coffee spot of choice in the neighborhood. Yesterday morning, before heading out to my client in San Ramon, I stopped in and ordered a chai-mocha and a cinnamon twist. Now, my usual poison at Starbucks is a chai latte and a cinnamon twist. The chai is heavenly (to me) and the cinnimon twist is... well, something solid to eat while enjoying my chai. In Gaylords, the cinnamon twist was heavenly, and the chai-mocha (which seems like a good idea - two of my favorite drinks as one) was a major disappointment. There is some spice that is overused is most of the other chai blends out there that I just don't like and overwhelms the other flavors.
Meh!
