The start of this year was dead, work wise. I think I worked a total of about a week or so for both January and February combined. The start of March was picking up a little, but it has not been until last week that things started to get going full speed.

So where is the break peddle?!

I worked Wed-Fri of last week for a new client in San Ramon, and although I had already booked some time this week for an existing client, they needed me for this week also. I decided it worked out best to give the existing client some time on Saturday, as well as Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, and since I work from home for her, it meant I could take care of some errands as well. Meanwhile, on Friday I get a call from yet another existing client who needs some work done by Tuesday. Well, her needs were such that I was able to give her some time on Sunday (she works from her home in Piedmont).

Still with me?

Monday finds me back at the client in San Ramon, for half a day (had to go register my car in the AM), and, on my way home, stopping by Piedmont to pick-up some work to take home for that client. During that drive I get a call from both of my existing clients, within minutes of each other, checking in with me.

The last two days have been working from home, and juggling life stuff, including going on a big stock-the-freezer shop (I got a chest freezer for this very purpose a while back, and it was finally getting low from the first time we stocked it). It is odd to be buying more than $150 worth of meat on one shopping trip, but this should last us a nice long time.

I actually had three different options for work on Thursday and Friday of this week. I am a little disappointed that I had to turn down one of my favorite clients because I had already committed to the new client in San Ramon. Then today, I get yet another call, from yet another placement agency, for some work they have on - you guessed it - Thursday and Friday of this week! Yeah, I had to say no to that one too.

I hate turning down work, but it is nice to be in demand again.

Oh, and to add to this, my Piedmont client asked me to cat-sit for her while she presents the work I helped her with at the client in San Diego for a few days. So, it looks like on Thursday and Friday nights I will be nesting down with her sweet-but-aged cat, Ruby.

I have an idea to run past you about a graphical work co-op. Basically a group of graphic designer/presentation people covering for each other on an as needed basis. Someone at work is leaving and is thinking about this. I instantly thought of you.

I would indeed be interested in discussing this idea. One of my clients is actually doing something that like that in a more niche field (medical communications). I also know several other graphics people who I imagine would be interested.

Sounds like something that needs a website... maybe even just a tribe for starters, for keeping in touch and listing skills.

Ok, lets discuss more.
