My weekend was full of ups and downs. I am continuing to think a lot about building a sustainable community. It is clear that it will take a long time to get it to the stage where it is truly self sustaining, but the only way to even get close is to take the first step.

After deserting the island idea, and deciding to keep to California, I found several listings that gave me some ideas, most in Northern California. The one that I am currently the most interested in is the 440 +/- acre wooded land about 150 hours/3.5 hours north of Lake Tahoe, near Lake Eagle. I showed it to W today, and he totally saw what I envisioned, and then some. His enthusiasm made-up for a lot of the downs I had about the whole sustainable community dreams that I experienced this weekend.

Just because I never got a chance to catch up with you today: it was really nice seeing you, & I hope we can talk a little bit next weekend.

The link's broken for me, but I'd love to see!

What do you mean by "truly self-sustaining"? I ask because, surely it will depend on the outside world for something...

I expect it to be reliant on many things from outside, but the goal is to work toward being able to be self sustaining at time if needed. I do not imagine that will happen for a long time.
