I am not sure if I am already regretting getting
abditus an X-Box or not, but since he seems to be enjoying it, I am pleased. We went and got more games tonight, and now have a decent sized collection already. I think that will hold us for a while. I have yet to play any of the games I got for me, but that is OK. I have enjoyed watching most of what abditus seems to enjoy playing the most.
The winning new game tonight is Fable, which is a game with a lot of thought put into the details. You start out as a pre-teen and work your way through the game learning new skills. As you grow-up, the game builds a profile that, based on your actions, decides things like alignment and even nick-names (his first game netting him the well earned moniker "Chicken Chaser"). I thought it was clever how the learning stage of the game was integrated as part of the story and was interesting enough to be engaging in of itself.
Currently he is racing cars in a Burnout3 (loud music warning on site load), which, is truly a game that rewards bad driving. I am glad
abditus is already a good driver, because I can see how it could build bad habits.
I suppose knitting while watching him play is productive, but it is not exactly a low impact activity for my wrist. Perhaps I will get to play DDR soon and our failed attempt to go the gym tonight will not be so bad after all. I also grabbed a game that might be fun for several people to play with some friends. It was an impulse buy, so we shall see, but I figure it is a good idea to have a couple of group games too. I mean really, how could I resist a game with zany weapons such as giant staplers and rubber ducky grenades?
