Considering the factors working against it, I am surprised at how well we did in the yard sale. Monetarily I made over $120 (not counting the coins, which were many). Seeing as I was working on the better to get rid of it than make a lot of money principle, that it not the best method to determine the results. What mattered to me in the end was the reduction in volume. I think, in that area we did well enough. There is still a lot to get rid of, mainly clothes. Well, and we had a lot of books too, but my wish to sell what was left to a second-hand book store was fulfilled right after we put away what was left from the yard sale, netting me another $40!

Clare did well, mainly in the reduction of volume, but since most of her stuff was furniture, reduction in volume was her goal. My boyfriend seemed to do well also, and managed to sell several of the items I was not sure we would ever get rid of.

As for the clothes, I am thinking of a couple of approaches. One idea is to do like we did with the books and find a second hand charity store that will take donations and get the tax write-off. Another thought is that I could pick out the nicer ones, and take those to a consignment shop and make some actual cash from them eventually (again, taking the rest to a charity).

Any suggestions? Including a good consignment shop in the area (say, Berkeley). I may need some help figuring out what constitutes consignment show quality. If anyone still wants to root through the remaining clothes (sizes range from 12-18) and think they might have a good eye for this, let me know and you could earn some new-to-you clothes.

A note for those who were interested, I did find some of the dresses that I had in storage and wanted to get rid of. Most of them need some kind of work to make them ready for use as ball gowns, but nothing major. If anyone expresses an interest I can make plans to show them if I know soon. Perhaps someone looking to put together a Dickens's outfit?
