The cats just came home from the vet this evening and are not very happy right now. Even though they are his cats, I am the one who picked them up from the vet, so I get to deal with the post-vet trauma. We timed the trip to the vet with the day the landlady was having a bunch of the window replaced. Since the cats could not be out and about when this was happening it made the most sense to take them for check-ups and (much overdue) teeth cleanings.
To clean a cat's teeth, they have to be put under. It is the cost of the anesthesia that is the lion's share of the vet bill. Fortunately, the vet we took them to, Abbey Pet Hospital in El Cerrito, has very reasonable prices. We had been quoted $159 minimum at another place in Union City, but this was only $55 each cat. We also had to pay for check-ups, but because we brought them both in, one was $26, the second cat was only $10.
So, I have them home now. They are finally both curled up pseudo-napping for the first time since we got home. I must not have been easy for them to not only have to deal with us moving the furniture yesterday, taken to the vet today and then come home to a place that does not smell right (the window install left the place smelling like chemicals).
Leeloo is finally on my lap now, so I am reluctant to get up. This after much growling on her part; at Yeats, at the bag that fell on top of her when she tried to jump onto the box it was on, and anyone who touches her in a way that could even suggests being picked up. They are both still a bit groggy, and it is kind of sad (in an occasionally amusing way) to watch them try to jump (up or down) and walk or even sit on a lap and not be nearly as graceful as usual. Which only contributes to their crankiness. To top this off, they don't get to have food or water for a couple more hours.
Poor kitties!
