Dundracon

Over 16 years later, I made another appearance at Dundracon today. My motivation to go was a meet-up event with some players of WoW that I had, until today, only ever known by their WoW characters. The event was planned for a Sunday morning, which I was not an ideal time, but I was going to try my best to make it. As it turned out, I did not end up going alone, which meant it took much longer to get there than expected. Not too surprising though, since I ended up taking W and his two youngest kids with. They were supposed to come over and play with my housemate's kids, but with the fevers and pukage from the kids here, no visitors was a better plan at the Oasis.

So, I borrowed the mini-van and rescued W, along with his 2 1/2 and 4 year old. Yeah, I know, I am a glutton for punishment, but they adore me, so I tend to give in easily. Trust me when I say it was easier to deal with just two of them, instead of all 6 like a couple of weekends ago. That did actually push me over the limit, but apparently I have recovered, or just have a selective memory. What I put up with for my friends!

As I said, it took a lot longer getting there, and so we arrived shortly after the event was over. I did, however, see [livejournal.com profile] abditus right away, who was kind enough to loan me his badge so I could roam the dealers room, and check things out (thanks again!). During that roaming I ran into the-former-LJ-user-known-as-pasuuna which was a nice surprise. We chatted some about WoW, he admired my "armor" and we talked about making a set for his girlfriend. I did not get to hear much of how he was doing, aside from him needing a nap so he could survive the rest of the con, but I promised to make it to the Plough sometime soon.

I had tried calling the reception desk earlier to connect to the room of the guy hosting the meet-up event, who had given me his name for that very purpose, but it was not until later that I figured out I had remembered it wrong. After looking up the event in the program I was able to call and actually get through, and was invited up to meet them in their room instead (kids and all). I rounded up W and the kids and headed up to meet in person the characters I have known as Dreadmon and Mojojoey. We all enjoyed some WoW game geeking and they were very good natured about the kids who were rather hyper. Dreadmon offered to loan W his badge so he could do a run through himself, so he took off with the kids for a bit before we had to leave.

On the way down, I ran into [livejournal.com profile] devonapple, who was one of the only known friends I was hoping to see, and, although he was running from one game to another, it was nice to see him.

All in all, we all had a good time and, since we had packed sandwiches, and did not end up needing to buy passes, it did not cost too much, which is a very good thing, seeing as neither of us have much money to work with. It was neat to meet, in person, the players behind the characters you see regularly online. In honor of the name badge I made for myself, I created a new icon of my main on Emerald Dream.
