During my last conversation with the agent for the movers (when I called to point out to him that they had never even shown up) I asked if they could come on Friday instead. He said yes, but that was before talking with them, so I figure there is a chance they may not even be available.

I don' t want to rely on the friend that is helping O&R move that same day, although the idea that we could save money by splitting the cost of a larger truck is appealing, it is the manual labor that is lacking at this point. I am not supposed to lift anything heavier than 25 lbs, which makes me less than helpful for most of the furniture, and many of the boxes.

Is there anyone out there who does not work this Friday (for whatever reason) and is not otherwise obligated who could come help me move? There should be no sorting needed that day, just moving already packed boxes and furniture. Aside from the typical provisions, if it would help, I am willing to throw some money the way of those that help move my stuff that day.

Unicorn

You scored 30% Esotericism, 18% Power, and 24% Malevolence!
The unicorn is a legendary animal. It is usually portrayed as a slender, white horse with a spiraling horn on its forehead, although its appearance and behavior differs, depending on the location. In the west it was usually considered wild and untamable, while in the Orient it was peaceful, meek and thought to be the bringer of good luck. There it is usually depicted as a goat-like creature, with cloven hooves and a beard. In Japan it is called Kirin, and in China Ki-lin.
The word "unicorn" is based on the Hebrew word re'em ("horn"), in early versions of the Old Testament translated as "monokeros", meaning "one horn", which became "unicorn" in English. The creature is possibly based on the rhinoceros or the narwhal, a marine creature with one horn.

Today went fairly well, all things considered. Work was productive without feeling overwhelming. I felt competent and capable, if mildly distracted. My boss was out for most of the day, so I had the room that is our office to myself for much of the day. I got both work and personal items on my to-do list completed, including some that were nagging me for months. One of them in time to apply for some money that was due to me, but I would have lost had I not filed the paperwork before the end of this month. Yay me! I even left work a few minutes early so as not to get stuck sitting in traffic at night like I did on Monday.

I went over to O's tonight to help her figure out how she is going to place her furniture in their new bedrooms in our new place (using my awesome Photoshop skills to create a mock-up). Although not ideal, solutions were found that she could live with. While there, the actual move was discussed and we came up with an idea that made both of us happy. Since she would rather I drive than her husband, and I have decided that the movers I ordered are unreliable enough that I don't even want to try relying on them one more time, I will be driving the truck that they rent, and we will start with my stuff.

We are starting with going to get the truck at 9:30 AM on Friday morning. First stop: my place to load my big stuff first, followed by whatever else I have packed. Then we swing by O&R's place to get as much of their stuff that fits. If it does not all fit into one truck, we will end up needing two trips, but hopefully not more. Yes, other trucks are very welcome. O&R's electronics are going with O in their mini-van. Saving room in the big truck for the large furniture is a good thing as it will reduce the number of times I have to drive a large truck up a steep hill (did I mention we will be living up a hill?). It may be less than 3 miles away, but it is steep.

So far, [livejournal.com profile] bk2w has offered his manly self to the cause (Can you get to Richmond by 10-10:30 in the AM? Do you prefer beer or soda when you help someone move - and if so, which kind?) Also, I should have R and his friend P (I think - not sure when he arrives but he is a reliable sort of friend).

Anyone else available on Friday during the day? Or Saturday to help with the yard sale?
