If you make it...
Apr. 5th, 2006 11:01 amMy mom sent me the following announcement about an event I am sure some of my friend will want to attend:
If you Make it, they will come. In its first year, Make magazine has
discovered and celebrated Makers--the underground community of inventors
and hackers that is fueling a resurgence of grassroots invention.
On April 22-23, Make's first-ever Maker Faire will bring together the
Maker movement for a 21st-century Chautauqua at the San Mateo
Fairgrounds just south of San Francisco, CA. It's a family-friendly
weekend that
celebrates science and technology projects and the DIY mindset.
The fairgrounds will be packed with events including:
* 6 exposition & workshop pavilions--Weird Science, Ultimate Garage,
Robotics, Digital Entertainment/Gaming, Green Tech & Electronics
Recycling (celebrating Earth Day, April 22), and the Ultimate Workshop
* a 5-acre outdoor midway with over 100 exhibiting Makers, hands-on
workshops, demonstrations, and DIY competitions
* Swap-O-Rama-Rama--trade clothing items and transform new treasures
on-site by cutting, sewing, and decorating. Plus, a recycled Fashion
Show on Saturday at 5pm
* Make:Movies--the first festival for Makers to show off their DIY short
video clips
* Bizarre Bazaar--"not your granny's craft fair"
"One of the big ideas of Make, and now Maker Faire, is to engage
people of all ages in science and technology," said Dale Dougherty,
editor and publisher of Make magazine. "You don't learn science and
technology
from a textbook; you learn it by using your hands and your mind."

I am sure that some of you will be especially interested in the opportunity to meet the MythBusters who will be there.
I am thinking this event is worth a trip for any number of interests I have. Anyone else want to go?
