My day

Spent most of the day in downtown SF, taking care of errands. First I meet with some former coworkers I have not seen in years who are all working together at an ad firm in SF. I left my resume with the creative director there who I used to work with and she said she would keep her ears open. Even if it does not lead to a job contact, it was good to see some of the people I have enjoyed working with in the past, and had hoped to keep in touch with.

Next I went to get the last of my old amalgam fillings replaced with porcelain. In the past 11 years my dentist has replaced all of my old fillings with nice white porcelain ones, so not even I can tell if I have any fillings just by looking. I ended up getting a second Novocain shot, so it took many hours for the numbness to wear off. At this time, my dentist says I have no more work to do and will only be going back for cleanings twice a year. Lets hope it stays that way for a long time to come!

Conveniently, my financial advisors are not only in the same building, but on the same floor, so while I waited for the Novocain to wear off, I discussed the status of my finances while I am out of work. I am feeling a lot better than the last time, partially due to being able to collect unemployment this time, but also because I have advisors helping me keep an eye on my financial portfolio. When I mentioned where I was going next to the dental assistant, she said she has been using their services for over a decade and is happy with them, which is nice to hear.

I came home to the news of housemate R being late at work again. Housemate O and I decided to start on dinner, so she cooked brown rice, and I made some of the artichokes I got at the festival. He made one of his signature dishes when he got home, mushroom chicken, which is yummy and went well with what we had already made.

O and I have decided that R is artichoke impaired. At first he did not want one (which was fine - more for us!), but then, after I made enough for O and I to have some for lunch tomorrow, he changed his mind and had one anyway. OK, that is not a problem, we decided, we can share the one left. But then we noticed that he left all the leaves. Huh!? We figured that he just eat the heart, but upon further observation found that he had very little of the heart, and only a couple of leaves. The oddest thing about the leaves he did eat was that he eat the wrong side! You know, the side with the sharp thing (which I usually cut off) that you hold with your fingers while your teeth scrape the meat off the base of the leaf? Yeah, that was the clincher for us to decide that despite of, or maybe because of his chef training, he is artichoke impaired. I guess I am going to be the designated artichoke cook in this house. We are not sure we want to educate him on the joys of artichokes as we like them because right now it means more for us.

Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] bdot, your presence was noted. When R got home, he wondered around the house saying "[livejournal.com profile] bdot was here today" and "was bdot here?"
