The Fourth Wall
Jan. 11th, 2005 11:26 amDoes anyone want to join me in seeing
devonapple perform on stage? If you have been reading his LJ you already know he has a part in the play "The Fourth Wall" by A.R. Gurney at the Onstage Theatre in Pleasenton.
The play open January 21 and runs until February 12, Friday and Saturday nights, with some occasional Sundays and Thursdays. Tickets for most shows are only $12.

Once the Shellie Awards conclude, a host of new shows will open. On Jan. 21, Dorothea Rastergar directs A.R. Gurney's clever comedy "The Fourth Wall" at the Onstage Theatre. The four-person play features Mark Inglis, Cynthia Roberts, Rhonda Taylor and Devon Apple.
In theater lingo, the "fourth wall" is the imaginary barrier between the players on stage and the audience. The characters on stage, of course, presumably see the space as an ordinary wall. Gurney uses this conceit as the basis for his over-the-top comedy. The action is set in an upper-middle class household in Buffalo, N.Y. Peggy, who usually has such exquisite taste, has inexplicably redecorated her living room so that the fourth wall is utterly blank -- yet it is the focus of the room. When anyone enters the room, strange things happen with characters bursting into song or talking like stage actors in a play. Go figure! In between the laughs, Gurney manages to poke fun at theater traditions and politicians.
"The Fourth Wall" continues through Feb. 12. Onstage has managed to keep its ticket prices very reasonable, but for those really looking for a bargain, take advantage of the company's half-price Thursdays. Call 925-944-9006 for reservations.
