"Registry"

Have you ever been asked to give gift ideas for what to get your partner, and, although you have had a bunch of great ideas recently, you are drawing a complete blank? This has happened any number of times with my partner. Last year for Christmas, it took me a couple of days to think of a good gift for my father to get him. He updates his Amazon wish list sporadically, and does not remove items that he has since acquired, usually because he just up and bought it for himself instead. Makes me wish I could get access to his wish list and make some edits. Delete items he owns, add some I think should be on the list. Although, that would ruin the surprise if he decides to look and finds all these things he did not add.

Then, I wished I could create a second wish list of just ideas I had for him. Although that feature does not exist yet, you can create another wish list in the form of a wedding registry. OK, so we are not getting married any time soon, but it seemed like the best way to create a list that would allow people to order from Amazon (or not), but be one that I put together for him. It includes his home shipping info too.

Instant gratification boy does have a habit of buying up the great gift ideas before anyone else can get it for him. This year I have shooed him away from a couple of things I know he would enjoy owning, but would make a great gift for him. He did just buy a new phone (Sony Ericsson T610) and a new PDA (HP iPAQ Pocket PC), not to mention a new pressure cooker, so I hope he has enough toys to keep him busy for the rest of the season. *Oh, and I am sure I can come up with some ideas for his motorcycle. Those are not likely to be available on Amazon though, so maybe I should make a non-Amazon list as well. Hmmm.

*Updated. [livejournal.com profile] shipofools999's post inspired me to update my own wishlist. They are still mostly linked to my Amazon wishlist items, especially now that Amazon does everything!

This is what I have done for me. It lets me keep track of what I want and others to check in. I had it for just over a year now and still really like it. It links to Amazon when that is a good place to get something and other places for things available only there.

my list...

I did make a similar list a few years ago, although I should probably set it up to be more like yours and continue to update it. The problem is that I have done very little (read as nothing) to my site in over 2 years. Your list has a lot of info, and I would love to be able to provide as much in my list also, but I doubt I will be able to find the time.

Well, that has to change! [calls service provider to get password updated...]

My reason for wanting to use Amazon is mainly because my dad (who was one of the people I needed to find gift ideas for) is happy to use that for much of his gift buying, and it is already set-up.
