Lets meet-up

All my posts about creating a sustainable community are just a fraction of what I have been thinking about on that topic. The conversations I have had with friends (and people at the Green Festival) have yielded many ideas that only prove to spur more thoughts on the topic. The interest I have been getting from friends is encouraging, and I want to tap into that enthusiasm to keep this ball rolling.

I want to start getting together in small groups to continue the brainstorming. Weekends are likely to be crazy for everyone for the next few months, so I wanted to suggest a couple of week night gatherings. Perhaps a pot-luck at someone's house or meeting in a cafe (Au Coquelet comes to mind) will work for a starting point. I am happy to host, although I am not sure if I am centrally located enough for those who are interested. Maybe we should have a couple of these in different locations?

Anyway, I created a poll to get an idea of interest.

Okay, here's the thing:

I am interested in the abstract, but not in the pratical nor do I think this is the time in my life to persue such ideas. As such, while I find such conversations interesting, I think that I don't have much to contribute as I'm not really fully vested so I don't have an interest in coming to groups or participating much online, but I don't think it is a waste of time and I wanted to express that I support you in this regardless of my interest levels.

Thank you for your note. I am aware that interest levels will vary among all involved, but it should not preclude from being involved, even if just for personal information gathering. You are a very insightful woman who I suspect, when given the opportunity, will have things to contribute, including simply to challenge assumptions others have made.

Overall, you may not be ready to deal with making any kind of commitment right now, but there is probably enough interest there that you will be interested in something like this eventually. I have had this interest for about half my life and only did a little research back when I was in my 20's. I have often, over the years, not felt I was ready to pursue more than that, and can appreciate where you may be coming from.

I will, however, ask a question for you to think about:
If you were not a wage slave, having to work in order to afford what quality of life you can manage to obtain, what would you want to be doing instead?
