Yesterday morning I noticed an e-mail invite from my grandmother to go to dinner Saturday night. Seeing as I was going to be in the south bay for egonbruer's birthday party, that was not even out of the way to stop in Los Altos on the way home.

Aside from seeing my grandparents, some aunts, an uncle (Nick's parents) and some cousins were there, which gave me the chance to pump them for ideas on what to send my cousin Nick in Iraq. They had lots of good ideas, and had already sent him a bunch of stuff I had not even thought of. However, I was very saddened to find out that when they spoke to him recently that he reported that no one there has received any mail for three weeks!

I am still going to send him stuff, but I know it will take a long time to get to him, and I doubt will make it for his birthday.

The other thing that we found out was that granddad was scheduled to speak at two Kerry fundraisers today, and one of them in Berkeley. Especially cool is that the Berkeley event is for LGBT supporters. One of my aunts expressed an interest in attending, as did I.

I don't know how many of you know who my grandfather is, so for those who do not, he is William J. Perry, former Secretary of Defense. He is currently a professor at Stanford and has been a silicon valley mover and shaker for 40 years. He also likes Mozart, desserts, Dicken's and Calvin & Hobbs comics.

So, we are actually going attend a political fundraiser today. I also invited my friend, E, who is excited about going. I have to admit, I have never been this involved.
